blog titles never really what it seems.

i've finished my Gypsy Hand Job (art pieces, named after a silly accident in Bolivia, resulting in the temporary pause of my normal activities as a photographer, that were made by hand rather than camera).

it's a beaut.

i really love it. almost enough to not sell it.

but my wall space is limited.

this one took me almost a month to do.

blue spray paint on unprimed MDF. gradient, subtle cross, and paint drip. // oh look! it's me.

tadaa! dry. and ready to get worked on

initial lines, then Ace card detail, in marker. // starting on hair detailing from the bottom left corner

Ace card: middle spade is detailed with hearts, cubs, and diamonds within it.

second day.. getting a lot done // and close up shot - paint gloss finish makes it hard to see my marker lines, and photograph

right side done in another (3rd) day // close up shot

finally get a mask, after throat blockage and headaches from the markers. i drew whiskers on 'em. duh.

Sharpies marker for the spray painted parts // hair work creeping up... 4th day

details with ink, hair. 5th day.

detailed eyes and face. 6th day

after a long week and a half of not knowing how to finish off the piece... i decided to paint the ravens with acrylic for a subtle, yet interest-grabbing look. and i love it.

really easy DIY soft clutch

it's been a while since i've done a DIY.

most recently, i made a sequin bralette and a (faux) snakeskin clutch (seen with this outfit)

this post will guide you to easily make your own soft clutch.

(don't be fooled by the amount of text below, i've also included tips!)

you'll need: sharp (pref. fabric) scissor,

outer clutch fabric (snakeskin print for me),

an inner clutch fabric (no one but you is really going to see it),

needle & thread, pins to hold fabric together if you have some (if not, more needles will do just the same)

clip on button,

not pictured, but a zip! haha

and a sewing machine (unless you're happy to sew it all by hand)

1. cut the fabrics to your desired shape/size. just make sure the width is shorter than the length of your zip.

2. pin the material together, making sure that they're pretty damn close to being the same cut. (we don't want to sew it all together, and bits have shifted).

btw, the above picture is not the full length of the material, it is folded.

also see tip 1.

3. tadaa! the top (zip) ends have each been sewn - be sure not to sew all four layers together, each (2) ends should have the outer & inner fabric sewn.

also see tip 2.

4. here's the trickiest part.

to make these instructions a little easier, first zip up the zip.

lay the zip on top. have the zip edges folded in so that the top face of the zip is lying on the snakeskin face. have the zip track as close to the fabric as possible (see picture 6). (if you have enough pins, pin it down - this will make it easier for you to sew)

if your zip is longer than the clutch you've cut, just make sure that when the zip is closed, the zip handle is closest to the edge of your clutch.

now unzip, and sew one side. (the back of the zip should be facing you, and the zip should be lying on top of the snakeskin face).

then repeat this step (4) with the other side of the zip.

also see tip 2.

5. sew the sides of the clutch together (4 layers each side) inside out (like above), for both sides.

6. flip it inside out, and you have the above picture!

7. using a needle and thread, i hand sewed clip-on buttons to one side of my clutch. (top and near the middle). when folded, and clipped down, it looks like the picture below.

tip 1: the snakeskin material doesn't fray, so i didn't bother to hem it in. if you have a material that frays, after cutting it and before sewing anything, just fold it in by about 3-5mm and sew. this will just make everything look neater on the outside.

tip 2: at the beginning of each time you start sewing (by machine), sew a couple times in (i don't know the proper term, but pretty much so that the needle sews in a couple times), reverse it just about the same amount of times, then continue sewing forward. also do this at the end of each sewing line. this will secure the thread in.

tip 3: if you'd like to make sure your folding stays in place, use pins to hold it down before sewing anything. you could even iron it down! (:

if you've been following my blog for a while now, you would've known that i had a pretty nasty fall on Death Road (in Bolivia) that has resulted in me getting surgery to mend my collarbone back.

after my first surgery, i was pretty upset that i couldn't do photoshoots for a few months, so i diverted my creativity onto other art forms.

i, then, created Hand Jobs.

as in, i draw/paint by hand. ... rather than light via camera.

i've proudly sold a few Hand Jobs, and still making more.

i have trouble falling asleep... lately i've been having very broken sleep, so much that i really believed my dream was real. i had to check the time and date to remember it wasn't.

and for the last couple of weeks, i've been running from people. i don't know why i'm running... but i have to run. i don't like being chased in my dreams... heck.. i don't like being chased in RL (that's 'real life', folks).

but my reoccurring ~~dream~~.. nightmare... is ... abstract.

it's made of feelings more than it is anything i can touch/hold.

so it's something like this:

i'm in a black empty space. i'm not really standing on anything.. just an invisible plane.

i see a cube. curious, i go to grab it. and as i do that.. i either shrink smaller, or the cube gets way too big for me to reach. like Alice in Wonderland.

sometimes, i want to climb it, but i slip.. and the cube was tiny, all along.

there are spheres, too. and it's just the same idea - perception is everchanging.

sometimes i get sucked in, i fall in between the cracks, or inside the ball, and the ball shrinks.

i'm suffocated.

this dream makes me scared.

i'm confused - why are the shapes small when i could swear it was taller than myself? am i being lied to?

everytime i try to do something, i fail.

it doesn't bother me that i'm alone.

what bothers me is that everything i do is... useless. but i can't stop.

i've just started using Macadamia Natural Oil, which also has argan oil (/moroccan oil). it's said to absorb in better than Moroccan Oil, so I'm gonna give it a go. my long tresses need treatment!

but then i would lose connection to real life. the internet is like that. there's a different sense of 'real' life. words are written to express thoughts, drawings are spilled to represent an idea. i use art and the internet to express my inner self.. because i cannot in real life. i'm afraid to let loose in real life. only those really close to me are both lucky and unfortunate to live with my volatile state .. sometimes. not always.

i choose to live my life separated, like Gemini. so that i won't lose myself forever. so i won't lose strength to return and reflect in reality. i choose to not live life as a dreamer. i don't trust myself.. i'm afraid of being wrong. i'm afraid of not seeing clearly.
so i guess i'll continue to be an artist at heart, behind my social doings, behind my shell...my 'normal' adequately interesting body.

[above: you need something to make a small hole in your jeans. i've used a threading needle & knitting needle. you'll also need your studs, which you can get from ebay]

[above: mark where your spikes will go]

[above: use the needle to make a hole. fiddle with the hole to slightly stretch it open]

[above: use the knitting needle to make that hole larger - if your knitting needle/material work well together, you probs won't need the threading needle]

[above: push the spike backing out from underneath the jeans]

royal hair

I spend forevvvvaaarrrrgghhh thinking about my next hair change - always. I'm very surprised I had my coloured extensions in for over 5 years! But that's prolli cos I got lazy, and all I changed were the numbers of colours and letting my hair grow long.

It started with mahogany red dye, back in year8. Then the embarrassing tiger bleach/highlight strips on the top layer in year9. Then bleaching the bottom half layer of my hair (opposite of the fad for blondes when they dyed black for under layers). Dabbled in caramel-blonde for a couple years, then grew it out before going back to black.

It didn't stop here.

In uni, it started with purple, pink, & white colored extensions. I went through that Victoria Beckham stage with the short back and long front... Which went wrong, and vowed never to let someone cut or colour my hair again... Not even mum (sorry mum).
Year by year, I added colours but kept my hair layered short at the top, and longer each layer down to the neck.

It was time.
Before going to south America, I had a long (very long) think about doing balayage. Late of trend, but I planned to only do it for the 2. and change my parting (OMFG). Months I'd be gone, changing back as soon as I got home. Almost like balayage had never happened. But people love it... And my long mermaid hair is awesome.

However, once again, it's time for a change. I thought of chocolate brown, red, back to rainbow, cut shorter, and the side shave. I had been thinking during my south America trip. Every chance I get to think, and not be in awe of the beautiful sights and food, I would think of my next hair change.

It has now come to two choices: cut short, or the side shave. Hair is like gold. I hate looking at al the hair that have fallen to the ground after haircuts. It's a very emotional thing!
So shaving one side short is gonna kill me over time, looks a little dyke-ish, and is now one of those late-trend of things.
Cutting medium short will just be having it short for a while... And probably much better for our upcoming summer.

Yesterday, the scales sided... I am leaning towards the shave.
I feel that I need this change. Force myself to work with my hair.... And do it for me, my sense of identity, bravery, and self love. Not to look 'acceptable', and pretty to the norm.
I'm kinda just ranting though, cos I am a little bored with little to do since being in a sling full-time, after my shoulder surgery. I'll prolli just change my mind again. But this is kind of a warning... To hold on to our knickers. The next time you see me... I might look like a lesbian.

And if you're wondering about how I am post-surgery... I'm doing a lot better.
Taking less painkillers, feeling less nauseous, and starting to eat normally. Showering is still the worst thing, after lifting myself out of bed.. My wounds still look horrendous, my shoulder and hip area are still bruised and swollen, and my hip still feels pretty bad (had bone graft taken out).

In a week's time, my stitches get taken out.. And hopefully, I'm out of my sling.
Hopefully in no time, I can use the metal plate in my shoulder to shove rude people out of my way.
And also fingers crossed that my surgery to take out the plate won't be around Xmas or new years!!!
